|Purpose:||Encourage your participation with Electronic Claim Reporting.|
Connecticut is following the federal electronic commerce initiative in electronic data interchange (EDI) of Workers’ Compensation claim information. EDI is the computer-to-computer exchange of formatted business documents between enterprises. The state is working closely with the International Association of Industrial Accident Boards and Commissions (IAIABC), the group which develops national EDI standards. Using innovative EDI technology, the Commission has become more efficient and responsive to the needs of its customers. Over 30 percent of first reports of injury now come into the division electronically. Connecticut can accept EDI First Reports of Injury in the IAIABC flat file format as well as in the ANSI X.12 language. We are looking for ways to achieve economies of scale so that each individual organization is not required to acquire EDI capability. For example, suppose there are 10 self-insured employers who use the same third party administrator. If we can determine that the TPA has the ability to implement EDI, then the TPA may be able to report electronically for each one if its clients. This would save these employers the time and expense of acquiring EDI capability themselves.
The most frequent questions carriers and self-insured employers ask are: "What’s in it for me?" and "How do I get started?" Here are some good reasons to participate:
If you have questions about EDI you can call the Office of the Chairman at (860) 493-1500, or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org . Thank you for your consideration of this important initiative for streamlining the administration of workers’ compensation.
