A meeting of the Workers’ Compensation Advisory Board was held on Monday, September 9, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the Office of the Chairman, 21 Oak Street, 4th Floor, Hartford, CT.

Minutes

A regular meeting of the Workers’ Compensation Commission Advisory Board was held on September 9, 2013 in the Workers’ Compensation Commission’s CRB Hearing Room, 21 Oak Street, Hartford, Connecticut.

The meeting convened at 10:15 a.m. with the following Board Members present: Acting Chairman Rocco Calo, presiding; John Adamson, Michael Dimenstein, Ross Hollander, Gregory Nokes and Donald Shubert. Chairman John Mastropietro, Marvin Smernoff and Michael Petosa of the Workers’ Compensation Commission were also in attendance.

  1. Opening Remarks
    1. Acting Chairman Rocco Calo welcomed the group.
  2. Chairman Mastropietro’s Update
    1. i. Commissioner Retirement:
    2. Chairman Mastropietro announced that Commissioner Amado Vargas is retiring effective October 1, 2013.
    3. ii. Middletown District Office:
    4. Space is currently being assessed to relocate the Middletown District Office.
    5. iii. 100th Anniversary
    6. The Symposium celebrating the Centennial of the Workers’ Compensation Act is being held on October 3, 2013 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Cromwell. All net proceeds will be donated to the Disabled Workers’ Scholarship Fund.
    7. iv. Hospital Docket
    8. Since June of 2013, the number of claims filed disputing the definition of “actual costs” and billed charges rendered by the hospitals has increased to more than 1,800 claims. The agency is making preliminary plans to establish a hospital docket to manage these claims.
  3. Meet and Greet with Commissioners
    1. The Advisory Board members met and spoke with Commissioners Nancy Salerno and Ernie Walker as the first step in meeting its statutory obligation to recommend their renominations to Governor Malloy for the next legislative session.
  4. Adjournment
    1. A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Michael Dimenstein and seconded by Ross Hollander. The Motion passed unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at 10:50 a.m.
    2. The next regular meeting will be held on October 7, 2013.
