Heart
& Hypertension Benefits |
Public Act 96-231 (An Act Concerning
Heart and Hypertension Benefits) was enacted during the course of the Spring
Legislative Session of the Connecticut General Assembly. To assist you in
understanding the new legislation, the Workers' Compensation Commission would
like to inform you of the following:
- Effective July 1, 1996,
ONLY
uniformed members of paid municipal fire departments or regular members of
paid municipal police departments who were employed ON JULY 1, 1996
will be eligible for Heart & Hypertension Benefits pursuant to Section
7-433c of the Connecticut General Statutes
- Effective July 1, 1996, uniformed
members of paid municipal fire departments or regular members of paid
municipal police departments who were employed ON JULY 1, 1996 (who
therefore are still eligible for Heart & Hypertension Benefits) are
no longer required to serve two years from the date of employment to be
eligible for such benefits (that previous requirement was repealed)
- Uniformed members of paid municipal
fire departments or regular members of paid municipal police departments who
are employed AFTER JULY 1, 1996 will NOT BE ELIGIBLE for
Heart & Hypertension Benefits pursuant to Section 7-433c of the
Connecticut General Statutes — they will be eligible ONLY for benefits
provided by the Workers' Compensation Act for their compensable work-related
injuries
