This page covers the basics of downloading and installing the Acrobat READER 5 software program. Both the Acrobat APPROVAL 5 program and the “full” ACROBAT 5 program can also be obtained by download, so the instructions presented here are generally applicable to a download and installation of these two programs as well.

NOTE: Although they can be downloaded, the Acrobat APPROVAL and “full” ACROBAT programs are most commonly distributed on CD-ROM, and sometimes the Acrobat READER is as well. If you obtain any of these programs on disk rather than through a website download, disregard the instructions on this page and follow the installation instructions that accompany the disk.

Please note that it is very important to perform the steps below in the order specified. Do not skip steps or perform the steps in a different order. We also recommend that you read through the information presented here before you download and install your Acrobat Reader, in order to familiarize yourself with the entire process.

NOTE: If you wish to actually see how to download and install a new Acrobat Reader, there are additional links in each section below leading to pages containing series of graphic screens that demonstrate each step of the download and installation processes.
